Hold up, stop scrolling for a minute.

Maybe you’re in a rut. Pessimistic, bored, angry, discouraged, lost. Maybe it’s looking for meaning and purpose but you’re so drawn to the endless distractions of entertainment or money that meaningful change ends up being an empty, meaningless life. It’s foolish to think things will change if you continue to do the same things over and over again.

(big reveal, not a secret…) God made you in His image. No lie; the Bible says so. That means a couple of things; if you choose to dismiss scriptural truths, you’re assuming you can outsmart God and if you’re going to dismiss your life as random than you’ve got more faith than I.

Be encouraged and know it’s okay when you don’t have all the answers. We’re created beings simply on assignment, something like a tiny cameo in God’s epic movie. Your fifteen minutes on camera that may be as an extra in a crowd scene. He is the Screenwriter, the Creator, the Director, the Producer. He gives meaning, purpose and our reference point in life. It’s not about you, not about me; it’s about Jesus.

So take heart, when someone wrongs you, know that it’s not Jesus. When someone abandons you, it wasn’t Jesus. When you feel defeated, it wasn’t Jesus. When your expectations are not being met, it wasn’t Jesus. You’re right where you’re supposed to be, because when the movie ends, the only thing that will matter is Jesus; the name above every other name.

So here it is; since we all seem to be drowning in information but desperate for wisdom, consider this life hack; create single moments where you are available to God. No checking your smart watch, no adding a stop at Walmart, no racing to the gym, no binging YouTube videos.

Simply creating intentional moments, Holy Moments, during the course of a day, or a week, or as you have opportunity that come from your heart. A random kind word to a stranger, a simple act of assistance, listening to a friend or colleague without passing judgement or trying to fix it, helping with the cost of another’s specific financial burden.

You won’t always avoid disappointment in life but in cultivating a rhythm of being available to your Creator and seeking ways to impact others for Jesus goes a long way to finding joy in living. Seriously, try it.

Three-minute exposure; a snapshot of life’s imperfect harmony,” by Stew McAuley.
